How long are you sober ?
I have been drugfree for 7 years, but without the correct attidude to it. I once broke "edge", because right now in that one moment in my life I felt like wanting to taste someone made. Back in the day it was the right decision. Seems confusing at first and yes, it also feels like that. So in short you can say I am edge for 6 months now!

Why did you decide to be straight edge ?
I want to live my life with a clear mind, with all the ups and downs and not force me into any mood, just because I am sick of current state right now.

How long are you vegan ? Since August 2006
Why are you vegan ? In my opinion animals are no product, but our society advertises  Nobody should eat them and factory farming is just wrong. You don't exerggerate, when you say they are KZ's for animals... Also the vegan lifestyle is the most healthiest.

What do you think about „edge breaking“ ?
Actually I did it once. People aren't perfect. On the one hand you should stick to your principles, but sometimes too much pressure to keep something up is a burden. I wouldn't break it again.

What's your opinion about D.I.Y. ?
I think it is great. People can be very creative and it helps to form communities. D.I.Y. shows feel much more comfortable to me than mainstream shows. Also most locations are just great. But sometimes those smokers can be annoying. :P

Do you show that you are vegan edge ? Do you x'up or have edge tattoos?
Maybe a band shirt once in a while, but I love that piercing stare,  like when I ask normal questions like "is there any alcohol in this punch?"

Do you play in a band ? Is the band vegan edge ?
No

What's about your local scene ? Many vegan edge people around ? Many shows (common and vegan edge)?
No, there are hardly any edge people and too less edge shows!

What do you think about violant dancing ? Do you practice it ?
Such people are idiots!

What are your 3 favourite straight edge bands ?
Anchor, Have Heart, Casey Jones

What are your 3 favourite bands ?
La Dispute, Joy Division, Fever Ray

Do you watch TV ? What do you think about it ?
I use my tv (Anime, TV shows), but I hardly watch the tv programme. Most media is manipulating and you should always reflect everything they tell you!

What do you think about the qoute „Straight Edge is politics“ ?
Ofc, xvx is in some way political. The process of becoming/ being edge includes so many other related topics and your way of thinking/ your view of most things changes.

What do you think about the hardline movement ?
Everything including some kind of hate for other people is just plain wrong!

What do you think about pro-choice and pro-life?
People are responsible for their on lives, but I would pick pro-life in my case.

What do you think about religions ?
Religion can be great. Religious communities and radical practice are the problems. People should believe in themselves and being more empathic for all kind of living beings.

How long are you sober ?
I quit drinking 3 years ago. Back then I just wanted to be fully
concentrated for my final exams.

Why did you decide to be straight edge ?
As stated above I didn't intend to totally stop using any kind of drug
but wanted to have a clear mind for a while. It turned out that the
only thing you share with some so called friends is a bottle alcohol
or smoking a joint. As I realized this, I decided to do the only thing
that was right for me.
I would rather call my lifestyle 'drug free' than straight edge. There
are so many bad stereotypes that go with that word and I also don't
know if I won't drink again sometimes in the future. For example when
I am an old fart.
I enjoy listening sXe bands and shouting along to their songs but I
refrain from glorifying the term or the lifestyle.
I don't enjoy the taste of alcohol or other drugs and they mostly make
me depressed or acting stupid.
I can be self-confident without being affected by drugs.

How long are you vegan ?

I am vegan for nearly 2 years now. Before that I was a vegetarian for
another 2 years.

Why are you vegan ?
Primarily for the animals in the world who suffer everyday and get
murdered so people can wear their skins, eat their flesh and exploit
them in every way possible.
For me it is the only right choice to make but I won't judge others
because they don't life as I do.
Getting in their faces with opinions won't change their mind, I rather
show them how easy and enjoyable it is to live vegan.

What do you think about „edge breaking“ ?
I don't take that as seriously as others might do. The most important
part about being edge is to have respect towards others and also
yourself.
As long as you show respect towards your surroundings I do not see a
problem having a drink or smoke something.

What's your opinion about D.I.Y. ?

It is one of the greatest aspects of the hardcore scene. I am very
glad that there are still people in Vienna who care about the music
and the message and won't let the scene be undermined by any
capitalistic ideals.

Do you show that you are vegan edge ? Do you x'up or have edge tattoos?
I have a Hoodie and a cap where there is "straight edge - something
more than ink" written on it. I rarely wear them and only to few
occasions. It's merch from a guy who runs a Facebook page about
straight edge and hardcore music. He does a lot of charity and so I
wanted to support him. (check him out: http://www.xmorethaninkx.com)
I don't plan to get any edge tattoos. Maybe someday one or more about
veganism and animal rights.

Do you play in a band ? Is the band vegan edge ?
I am the shouter and screamer in a mathcore band called SAIL THIS SHIP ALONE. Only the bass player Martin (also playing in the vegan Band
CHARLY BONE) and me are vegan and drug free.

What's about your local scene ? Many vegan edge people around ? Many
shows (common and vegan edge)?

I think there are many open minded people in our scene and I enjoy
going to shows and talking with them about those subjects. I know
several people who are vegan, edge or both.
I personally think that there are sometimes too many shows and it is
hard to keep up with the amount of bands that are visiting our town.
Also sometimes I think that certain bands shouldn't tour because they
are really not good in any way.

What do you think about violent dancing ? Do you practice it ?
I think it is a nice way to get physically into the music and release
the feelings inside you that come up during the show. If you practice
it carefully and watch out for other people there is no problem.
The problem is not the moshing but the people who do it wrong and
sometimes hurting people on purpose. But I can assure you that such
people will have a hard time around me.
Pogo dancing on the other hand really bugs me because it seems that
only mindless bastards are practicing it (sorry for the rant). In
combination with violent dancers it can lead to a bitter end.

What are your 3 favorite straight edge bands ?
old GhostXShip (with Curtis on the Mic and their old guitarist), Casey
Jones (R.I.P.) and Have Heart (R.I.P.)

What are your 3 favorite bands ?

Right now I would say Code Orange Kids, Touché Amoré and Agitator

Do you watch TV ? What do you think about it ?
I don't have TV and I didn't have one for the last 6 or 7 years and I
am glad. I use the internet and I can get the information, movies and
tv shows I want more precisely.
I don't need uninspired trash shows to feel better about myself.

What do you think about the quote „Straight Edge is politics“ ?
Never heard of it and it sounds strange to me. I don't see the
connection between the "commitment" and politics and I think I would
not care about it if I knew what it's about.

What do you think about the hardline movement ?

Is this still a trend? I really could care less. I just heard that
they are homophobic pricks with a militant view on the whole straight
edge thing and that it was big in the states.

What do you think about pro-choice and pro-life?
It is always a tough question. I think that if a girl or a woman
decides to abort their unborn child then they will have a good reason
for it. It's not something you choose to do easily.

What do you think about religions ?

I was never baptized because my parents wanted me to choose my
religion or what I believe in myself. I don't believe in any "holy
book" that is written by humans and I won't follow any guideline made
by anyone but myself.
Religions are preaching morals that should be manifested in every
person. Treat others with respect and you will be treated the same
way. I don't know what awaits me after I die but I am sure it won't be
bad.
Life only has meaning if you give it one. Too many people need
religion as an excuse for things they are not capable of handling.

How long are you sober ?
Kind a all my life... i was never drunk/ took other drugs... i was drinking like some alcohol but never too much that i got drunk...

Why did you decide to be straight edge ?
cause i realized that my friends - who were drinking with me sometimes - started to drink like a mixture of beer and coke after school and i thought: "i don't wanna end up being addicted to that stuff..." so i stopped drinking at all

How long are you vegan ?
It was kind a process... i started in 2009 being vegan@ home and vegetarian outside (i was vegetarian since i am 15/16)... but straight vegan since february 2010...

Why are you vegan ?
i stopped eating meat for several reasons - i didn't wanna be a murderer, didn't wanna harm the environment, didn't like the taste so much... then i realized through being vegetarian i was still causing a lot of pain and harm and i was talking several times with "albino" a vegan MC... then i was in kenya for 4 months and at the end of my trip there was no running water in nairobi - (at least in those parts who were not "white" & rich...) so i stopped consuming animal products at all.

What do you think about „edge breaking“ ?
Well i sometimes think: damn it would be so easy just to drink like stupid, forget about everything and just don't care. but i can't! i think i am too far in this "edge" stuff... (also i was living like "edge" before knowing what it is...)

What's your opinion about D.I.Y. ?
Nice but get a crew - and do it together.

Do you show that you are vegan edge ? Do you x'up or have edge tattoos?
There is no need to show off, i guess... though i have a shirt with a guy who has an X on his hand :-D

Do you play in a band ? Is the band vegan edge ?
Well i do some hip hop / rap stuff ;-) solo and together with mc escape "renitenz". i am xvx and he's like "vegetarian straight edge"

What's about your local scene ? Many vegan edge people around ? Many shows (common and vegan edge)?
I don't care a lot about this scene stuff - if my friends are straight edge it's cool if not i also like em as they are :D

What do you think about violant dancing ? Do you practice it ?
nope. don't like it

What are your 3 favourite bands ?
hard to say... amewu, akua naru & dead prez

Do you watch TV ? What do you think about it ?
i don't watch it - brainwash and no time :D

What do you think about the qoute „Straight Edge is politics“ ?
well straight edge is for me consciousness. i like that. and everything or nothing is politics...

What do you think about the hardline movement ?
everyone should do what she_he wants to do.

What do you think about pro-choice and pro-life
well... good question! it's too complex to answer within 10 sentences...

What do you think about religions ?
i don't like the idea of leading without thinking...

Any shout outs ? Things to check out ?
stay true to your self. that's the most important thing!

Eye of judgement - Outro

Alright let's get one thing fucking straight - Straight Edge has never been, nor will it ever be a fucking fashion accessory. I don't know where the fuck some people get the fucking nerve to call this a fucking trend. Wake up and smell the coffee you fucking fucks: Straight Edge is NOT cool. And that's good because I never thought it was gonna be cool and I never WANTED it to be cool. When you go out you're always gonna have some dumb fuck saying 'Hey man, why don't you drink beer, are you a fucking pussy or something?' and that's just something you'll have to learn to fucking deal with. You're gonna have to fucking deal with the fucking fact that the majority of the general fucking public consists of ignorant... ignorant fucking fucks. And to think that anyone is ever gonna fucking change that is just fucking ridiculous. I didn't start walking down this path to be accepted, this has got nothing to do with fucking peer pressure or whatever you fucking fucks come up with. Yeah, there's kids that claim the fucking Edge and sell out after a year or even after a few fucking months.. what does that prove you? That those kids never fucking understood what the fuck this is all about. It's not about fucking rules, it's not about fitting the fuck in, it's a set of fucking guidelines to help you keep your head fucking clear so that you're aware of what is you do every single fucking day in this fucked up world. If some kid's been straight for ten years and then drops the Edge... Well it's their fucking life isn't it? I'd rather see somebody drop the Edge after ten years because they realize it's just not for them anymore than see some stupid motherfucking kid claim Edge for three weeks and then sell out... because their fucking... fucking friends tell them to. It's not about telling other people what to do with their fucking lives... Hell I don't fucking care. I'm doing this because I know this is the best fucking way for ME to live MY life. Because trust me... If I wanted to drugs I would. BUT I DON'T WANNA DO DRUGS because that shit fucks you up beyond belief! And yeah, it makes me sad to see people I like or people I fucking care about do that fucking crap. As a matter of fact, IT PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF! Because I don't want to see them do that fucking shit to themselves. People I don't like, or people I don't care about... Go ahead, do that fucking shit... AND I HOPE YOU FUCKING OD ON IT! Because it's your own fucking choice you bunch of retarded fuckwads. It's not MY fucking responsibility to tell YOU what the fuck is wrong with you. If you don't see that yourself then you deserve to get FUCKED!

How long are you sober ?
I started drinking alcohol in the age of 15 and quit when I was 16. I've been sober for almost 6 years now.

Why did you decide to be straight edge?
at the same time when I became the idea of stop taking drugs, I started listening to hardcore and when you do that, it is clear that you will hear about a drug free movement called straight edge.

How long are you vegan ?
for more than 2 years now.

Why are you vegan ?

I think that is very clear. in the first place there are ethical aspects. it is a wonderful side effect that a vegan diet is also a very enviroment friendly one.

What do you think about „edge breaking“?

I personally have no problem with "edge breaking" because people (and so their ideas do) change. this is a normal thing. if someone has the urge do start drinking alcohol again, FUCK DO THAT. there are no ehtical problems with taking drugs, as long other interests are not violated.

What's your opinion about D.I.Y. ?
THE thing which seperates hardcore/punk from other music genres.

Do you show that you are vegan edge ? Do you x'up or have edge tattoos?
I personally have no single tattoo (but maybe this will change in the near future, we will see ;)). I am very rarely x'up, but I show with some shirts that I am vegan and straight edge.

Do you play in a band ? Is the band vegan edge ?

not yet.

What's about your local scene ? Many vegan edge people around ? Many shows (common and vegan edge)?
Vienna is different.

What do you think about violent dancing ? Do you practice it ?
not really, and I think it is okay as long the people pay attention to the other people who are dancing.

What are your 3 favourite straight edge bands ?
my favorite bands change very often.

What are your 3 favourite bands ?
my favorite bands change very often.

Do you watch TV ? What do you think about it ?
sometimes I watch sport on tv.

What do you think about the qoute „Straight Edge is politics“ ?
in some way this sentence may have substance but we should not think that being straight edge will politically change anything.

What do you think about the hardline movement ?
bullshit.

What do you think about pro-choice and pro-life ?

pro-choice is ethical. pro-life is religious bullshit.

What do you think about religions ?

the biggest shit on earth.

Any shout outs ? Things to check out ?

question everything.

How long are you sober?
Since more than 5 years.

Why did you decide to be straight edge ?
First of all, I've never decided to be SXE and I've never called myself that way. I just had enough of losing control. And I don't become sober from one day to another. At first I stopped to drink alcohol but not because of I've heard about SXE, just for myself. It took almost a year to stop smoking after I’ve finally stopped drinking. To be honest, when I started to get sober, I thought to be SXE is something different than I know today.

How long are you vegan?
Pppffhhhuuu… I can’t really say how long. I started as a vegetarian and then I became step by step a vegan. I think between 2 or 3 years now.

Why are you vegan?
My brother and my sister have paved the way for me. My Brother was the first vegan in my family and my sister followed him soon. They have opened my eyes, especially my brother. He is the “VeganMan” of my hometown and inspired a lot of our friends to go vegan. Like a good friend of mine said before: he is a hero! But basically, we are all vegan for all the innocent creatures which are slaughtered day by day, which the mankind tread like machines, toys and as an entertainment medium. We are not the crown of creation and this is something I also had to learn. I’m so thankful that my siblings have shown me the “right” way. And at this point I want to tell every reader of your blog: please inform yourself about what is happening around you, don’t close your eyes in front of the brutal truth. Inform yourself about all the products you are consuming. I know, it seems to be hard to choose his own way in this manipulating society/system, but every single one can make a difference. I’m not the one who’s telling you what you have to do or how you have to live, I just want you to think about how you act in your life. “As long as humans think that animals don’t feel, animals have to feel that humans don’t think”

What do you think about „edge breaking“?
I don’t care about. Every single one is responsible for him or herself.

What's your opinion about D.I.Y.?
I think D.I.Y. is one the most important things in my scene. Nearly all good shows are D.I.Y. I’m also trying to set up shows for touring bands. What I love about D.I.Y. is that these shows are always cheap or for free. When I set up a show, I always try to make it for free. I think everyone has to be able to visit a good hardcore/punk/metal show, no matter if he has money or not.

Do you show that you are vegan edge ? Do you x'up or have edge tattoos?
Like I wrote at the second question, I don’t even call myself SXE. But I’ve two Vegan tattoos, one on my right arm and one on the back of the right foot.

Do you play in a band ? Is the band vegan edge ?
Yes I sing in a hardcore/punk band called CHARLY BONE (don’t care about the name; we will change it anyway in the next year). The band is vegan but not vegan edge.

What's about your local scene? Many vegan edge people around? Many shows (common and vegan edge)?
We have a small but great scene in Vienna. In Lower Austria, where I’m from, there is nothing that I could call a scene. There are a few people who love the same music like I do, but the most of them are not vegan edge. The most shows are in Vienna but I wouldn’t say that there are especial “vegan edge shows”. But in Vienna the vegan scene is much bigger and that’s great.

What do you think about violent dancing ? Do you practice it ?
I think it depends on how you define “violent dancing”. I was at a lot of shows in Austria and also around of Austria and the crowd always moshed, danced, moved differently. I have seen stupid ignorant fuckers which used the “mosh pit” to show how cool they are and to hit people with long hair (or even people which don’t look like the same way these suckers look like) into their faces and so on. This is not “violent dancing”, this is just stupid. I love the movement on a HC-show. I love crowd surfing, the sing-alongs, the gang shouts and I personally love to mosh. You can call it “violent dancing” but I’m one of those who always tries to keep care about the people around me. But on a HC-show you have to expect that the crowd goes wild. So if you get hit by someone, please don’t get aggressive. There were a lot of cases that people didn’t understand what and why HC-kids move that way and these people can ruin the whole HC-show. My advice: When you don’t want to go wild on such a show and the mosh pit is too close to you that you can’t enjoy the show, just take a step back or hide your face and genitals with your hands hahaha…

What are your 3 favourite straight edge bands?
Currently: Wolf X Down, Set it Straight, xKingdomx

What are your 3 favourite bands?
Donnybrook, Maroon, Deftones

Do you watch TV? What do you think about it?
Haha yeah I think I watch too much TV. But I’m not watching every bullshit that is coming on ATV hahaha. The things I really like to watch are Simpsons (but just the old ones), Family Guy, American Dad and South Park (the best animated series ever). But I hate all this “Saturday Night Fever fucking your brain up bullshit” no matter if it’s on German, Austrian or English TV. And there are these stupid commercials… aaaahhh… can’t write more about… I think TV has become much more manipulative than it was already in the past. Young people orient too much on what they get to see. It’s true when a lot of people say: TV is making us stupid. Unfortunately I’m in that way also a rather bad example.

What do you think about the quote „Straight Edge is politics“?
Yeah…. I think I can’t answer this question correctly. I’m sorry ;)

What do you think about the hardline movement?
Nothing… Every single one has his own life, all your actions/decisions you make are for yourself, so, for me, it doesn’t make sense to be a hardliner. If this is the way of life that you have chosen you don’t need to be a hardliner, because it’s your way and you can lead the direction wherever and whenever you want to. But honestly I’m not so much involved in this so-called “movement”.

What do you think about pro-choice and pro-life?
Wow this is a hard question and I’m sure that I can’t answer this question correctly. Don’t get me wrong but I think in both topics are some good and some bad things. To put this now on a scale and find a clear, satisfactory answer isn’t possible for me. I’m sorry.

What do you think about religions ?
I don’t like them. Don’t get me wrong, to believe something isn’t always wrong or a failure. But religion is the wrong way to practice his believes. Why do we all have region education in all our schools? Why did we become baptized when we were babies or little kids? We didn’t get a choice and that’s wrong. Religions have caused wars, which aren’t over until yet (think about this). No, religion is not good for us. But this is just my point of view and I could write about religion so much more but I think this few sentences are enough as answer ;)

Any shout outs? Things to check out?
Thank you for this interview. I hope your blog is running for a long time.
And also this amazing bands from Austria: DEMONWOMB, HEAVEN RISE, SAIL THIS SHIP ALONE, IT’S A TRAP, MANTAN…..
Never forget: Knowledge is the key – no one is free until the animals are free.

Gather - Escalate

Straight Edge cannot be considered the final goal / but in order to achieve the things that count the most, we must use it as a tool. / There is more to it than simply being drug free / it's the clarity of mind to act most effectively against this system we're fighting / It's the first step, it's the key to unlock you from your apathy / but if you stop at that, you're just a waste to me / You've broken your addiction, but now you just sit / as stagnant as a passed out frat-boy - you're no threat! / I know plenty of Christian who don't drink / Do they deserve praise for being revolutionary? NO! / Do you really believe that Straight Edge alone is going to do shit? / If drugs are the reason everyone's so passive, use your sobriety to act! / Do you think it's just about health? / The how does it effect anyone but you? / Now that you're liberated, what are you going to do? / Merely Straight Edge - not enough! / Merely Straight Edge - step it up! / If you think that we have things in common just because we both wear X's on our hands, you're wrong! / We both may abstain from substances, but that is not enough to make a bond

How long are you sober ?
Since summer 2011.

Why did you decide to be straight edge ?
Primary, I wanted to live a few weeks or months drug free. I had a rough time after my girlfriend left and went out drinking 2 or 3 times a week. I wanted to have a break of these habbits and yeah, it's almost one and a half year now and it feels good. Never give up something that feels good!

How long are you vegan ?
For two and a half year.

Why are you vegan ?
I was vegetarian, just to try something new. I learned how to cook and how many products are contaminated with animal products. After I saw a video where baby chicken are gased, I immediately decided to vegan.

What do you think about „edge breaking“ ?
It's a decision everybody has to make for himself or herself. But I do not see a reason for consuming drugs after making a commitment to live drug free. But that's just my opinion.

What's your opinion about D.I.Y. ?
Good thing! Not only DIY shows, also clothes, etc. are important. I think people should close ranks and help each other, that's what DIY means to me.

Do you show that you are vegan edge ? Do you x'up or have edge tattoos?
No not really, just XVX stickers/patches.

Do you play in a band ? Is the band vegan edge ?
No, not yet.

What's about your local scene ? Many vegan edge people around ? Many shows (common and vegan edge)?
Some, but I never thought that there are so many vegan people in Austrian hardcore scene.

What do you think about violant dancing ? Do you practice it ?
I like to dance but I do not hurt anybody and I do pay attention to people inside and especially outside of the pit.

What are your 3 favourite straight edge bands ?

Hard to say... but I think Anchor, Wolf Down, Earth Crisis. I love the old GhostShip, but after they fired the singer the band can suck my dick.

What are your 3 favourite bands ?
New Found Glory, Set Your Goals and Anti-Flag.

Do you watch TV ? What do you think about it ?

I do not have a TV, but I stream TV shows illegally. I love so many TV series, I watch at least 2 episodes everyday. But TV in general is making people stupid. Especially those fucking reality TV shows.

What do you think about the qoute „Straight Edge is politics“ ?
I agree 100%.

What do you think about the hardline movement ?
I do not think that a radical XVX attitude is such a bad idea. But there's no place for homophobic, pro-life, anti-sexuality shit in hardcore. But I think hardline is dead, and that's good.

What do you think about religions ?
I just can't understand it!

Any shout outs ? Things to check out ?

No sorry
